I am an air-cooled vw freak venturing into a whole new world (water cooled, ac, and 4wd what was I thinking) any way I just bought a 94 Cherokee with the 4.0 for $1300. I got a heck of a deal because it has a heck of an oil leak and a worn out track bar. I can handle the track bar but the oil leak is driving me nuts. The problem is in the area of the oil filter, it is not the filter it self (I have replaced that) what are my options/potential culprits aside from cracked pedestal, or gouged filter mating surface? Is the pedestal removable (Mr. Chilton will not say) if any bodyís done it, please help, if not anyone have any pics of the passenger side of the 4.0 or any thoughts on how to try and remove it. I am known for breaking things when I think all the bolts out and they arenít, so my engine pleads for you help.
Thanks

I've never done it either. I'll check my FSM when I get home and see what it says.

the pedestal does come off, one big bolt in the center, and there is a gasket in behind it. its an easy job, if thats what the problem is.
