I do have to aplogize on the post. I have a feeling that I am be converted to the Grand Cherokee from the Cherokee. It is long story why but on day I will explain.

I have a chance to pick up a 94 ZJ with all the bells and whistles from the factory. It has a V8. My question is what is the general specs of the ZJ. Axles, T-Case, etc...

Also how hard is it to swap the 249 Tranfer case to 242 (Since I have an XJ that was built really nice).

And final ?'s if you have any helpful hints and knowledge on ZJ just shoot them my way since this will be a new ball game.

Thanks for the info

Kev

There is a pretty good 242 swap writeup in the Tech section..

The 94 will have low pinion 30 front and 35 rear..

Is it Limited or Laredo??

Does it have tow package? Look under and see if you have skids ?
(gas tank ,t-case and front engine skid are standard on Up country models as well as tow hooks..)

Does yours have tow hooks? Tow package?

Answer some of those questions ... And then we will see where you are at..Mr. Green

Thanks Carl. I don't have it yet. I plan on going to check it out today. To my knowledge it is the Limited edition.

Do you know of a site where they go threw year by year to describe all the options. Like the XJ stock spec thread in the XJ thread.

As for the low pinion in front I have that solved with the alxe from the XJ. I have to read the write-up on the t-case swap.

Not really sure I will look and see if I can come up with stock specs on the Grands..

Limiteds will have leather heated seats and mirrors.. Climate control ..
Usually have an Infinity system. Ummmmm... Thats al I can think of offhand..
If its V8 then probobly the 42RH and 249 with 30/35 combo.. The skids and hitch and such where all options or packages so you will have to look to see if you have those..

Post pics when you get it..

Carl

I went to check it out and the guy sold the one he was driving right when I got there. But he had a black one with 164,000 miles on the straight six. It is a limited addition. The problem with it is that the torque converter slips and a relay swicth needs to be replace for the heater and electonics of the interior.

Now I have to decide on this one. The body is in great shape and the interior is in great shape. I need to find out how much of a problem is it to replace the tourque convertor. Or see how impossible is it to replace the engine transmission and transfer case with my 99XJ setup (4.0 with 242 t-case). SO the new question of the day is: How deep in the Jeep Pooo am I getting into for the swap. Do I have to worry about the computer and would the wiring harness be a straight plug in. And about how much would it cost. The work will be done by myself and any willing soul that is stupid enough to be part of this. Like Drack

I guess I will stop with that for now... Oh the price is 2000 duckies

Thanks for all the info as of now...

I can tell you how to fit 35's... See my avatar... rofl

Anyway.. the 4.0 thats in a Grand is the same as XJ but the computer will need to be changed with the engine and tranny.. Because the tranny is probobly different.. But that shouldnt be a problem.. Since you should never buy a fuel injected engine without buying the computer for it..

I wouldnt assume that it was only the torque converter.. The 42RH thats in the I6 grands are know to go out . And they are very expensive to replace..
If you can get the XJ stuff do that.. If not ... Maybe a bone yard tranny.. From an XJ or another grand..

Let us know what you decide..Good luck..

Carl

I think you have answer my question with my swap. I have the whole XJ in hand. I just wanted to make sure it will be an easy transfer with whole power plant swap.
