I went to the land between the lakes web side : www.lbl.org

They have three camps sites. Corry, Keith which camp site do you guys recomend: Hillmen Ferry, Piney or Energy Lake?

I suggest we pick a place and one person make the reservation for eveyone who is going. This way all our camp sites are right next to each other.

We will camp at Turkey Bay which is the where the OHV trails are. It is a basic campsite, meaning nothing but the groud. I take that back they do have two port o cans, but I wouldn't use them! When you gotta go number 2, we drove to the visitor center which is 5 miles away. If that it to bare for you all let us know. One reason that we like that is because it is $8 a night per group, not per person!

Just bring yer own lid Jen. I won't scare you again with the picture of the bear pooping in the woods. Twice is enough.

Question is about the trip will the trail be open by the end of March, cause Turkey Bay is currently closed. We'll want to keep an eye on this:clicky

OHV AREA AND TRAILS
Due to recent heavy snow and rain, Turkey Bay OHV Area trails are still closed until further notice. For more information call 270-924-2000.

Well we went wheeling there right after a bad storm. The sky's flooded us on the way down there like none other then as soon as we got there the rain stopped. There should be a few other girls going and I don't think they want to pee in the woods either.

here was our campsite and this was all that we had

we plan on bringing some kerosene heaters with us only because it will be a tad bit chilly at night of course we can't have them in the tent. We will probably camp at the site that is closest to Turkey Bay, I think it's Rausch Creek. I'll need to consult the web site!

This is what concerns me more than anything else right now. We are still a couple of months out, but still... Confused

I know I would hate to cancel it, because this Corey's last hoorah before he gets into some fine West Coast wheeling. What really sucks is that we are supposed to get hit with two more snow storms this year. I think we will be fine though if we keep having 60 degree weather in Jan.

Dale PMed me today saying it can still be pretty cold in march, and I agree. Dale looked around the lbl website and found they have some camping shelters, which are one room cabins.

I called lbl to get some info. The camping shelters located at Wranglers will be the closest to the trial according to the person I talked too.

Also since there is a possibility the trails may still be closed I asked about
the cancelation policy. You can cancel up to 2 days in advanced.

Here is the info on the cabins:

Wranglers Campground Shelters:
$29 (Sleeps 4) Year-round
$49 (Sleeps 8 ) Year-round

Shelters Include:

Inside: One double bed & one bunk bed (Piney) and one double bed with either one or three bunk beds (Wranglers), ceiling fan with light, small table, folding chairs or benches, and electrical outlets.

OUTSIDE: Porch, fire ring and picnic table. Restroom/shower buildings and outpost supply center are located in campground.

They currently have 3 small cabins left and 5 large cabins left. So if we are going to do this, we should get the reservation made within the next week or so.

EDIT: forgot to include you can have a small eletic heater in the cabin, but you can't have kerocine heater.

Yeah they rent camping gear. On the LBL site where they have the campground prices, they list what gear they rent and the prices for each.

Piney has an electric heater listed for $4 a night. I answered my own question.

it's not going to be that cold. Tops and doors are usually off by middle of March. The temp should range in the mid to high 60's during the day and around the low 50's-40's by night. maybe dipping into the 30's here and there. It really wont be that bad as long as you layer up when you go to sleep!
