It's kind of funny and pointless how many states don't have annual inspections, and statistics prove we don't need 'em...yet VA is stupid Rolling Eyes

VA must be one hell of a state to have to live in. Seems like everything thats legal in KY is illegal in VA...??? WTF is up with that???

Should I go into my story?....sure....

Ok, I went this past fall to have an auto shop inspect my mustang (the one in my sig.) I was in the parking lot at 8:05am. I walked inside and they had a couple of cars on the lift already...I was ok with that.

I asked for an inspection, and the guy said "drop your keys off, and pick it up later." Um...hello, I'm a college student and only have ONE car here, plus I have classes...also, a mechanic the family knows says the station is supposed to put down what they are doing to inspect your vehicle (is that right?)...

So I sit down, and start to read the framed poster for VA State Inspections....(foreshadowing Wink ). I watch the clock, and over two hours pass....people walk in after me, and their car is inspected before mine. Evil or Very Mad

They take every damn wheel off, and b*tch about my fog lights not being wired to my low beams (hello....it's a 1965 model, that's how it was then...).. So the car ends up not passing....

They try to pull a fast one on me, and get me to agree for them to fix it. I said no, and that I wanted a rejection sticker. (They never told me this was an option, the only way I knew this was from spending my time reading the checklist.....pays to read).

So they give me a rejection sticker and I'm back on the road Mr. Green

They spent well over an hour inspecting my car, and they only made $15 Finger

Well, mt father went on and fixed the stuff they mentioned, and had it re-inspected.

That is my story of my first, and last time of getting it inspected at this shop....[/rant]

I'd love to see a $15 yearly fee. First it's the $36 yearly registration fee. Between the sticker cost, safety inspection fee, and new emissions testing fee, the whole inspection is like $50 at the cheap stations. Some I remember seeing were around the $70 mark.

Then multiply by 2 since I've got 2 Jeeps.

At least VA regulates the cost...that would suck if the mechanic could charge you whatever they want as it sounds like they do in PA.

Same here. If you shop around here, you can find it for about $75. Plus I just got my reg renewal - $105 for an 8 year old jeep. Sometimes I really hate this state. Confused

All of you are forgetting the "Vehicle tax" we have here in the Commonwealth. That varies depending on the blue book value of the car...so tack that on with everything else. Rolling Eyes

Here in NH we do have inspections and some decent common sence laws. About the only thing that will get you stopped are blacked out lights and even this is different from town to town. Nothing is supposed to be blocking any front or rear lamp. Even the clear protection covers are illegal here.

But generally the local or state police wont even give you a look unless your driving like a total idiot, or cause an accident. Then they start tacking on the fines concerning illegal equipment. Now that Ive said that, Ill probably get nailed by some first week on the job cop.

Are inspection cost vary from $15 to $20. Inspection stations set thier own price. Due to the lack of sales and income tax here, our registration fees are kinda high. Last November I paid $435 for my town and state fee's.
