As I find mods for the Jeep, and as I wheel more, I realize welding is a priceless skill.

I missed out on tech school (back in high school). Confused

Are there any general classes that I could take at the local community college?

Or how did you learn?

I'm really interested in welding, and I think it would be useful for many things, not just my hobby and obsession.

TIA,
Stephen Smile

Well... I will tell you how I did it. I went out a bought a Hobart MIG welder from a local welding supply company. Took it home hooked up the gas and electricity. Took several pieces of scrap metal and welded it all together. Patience is the best thing. I would read up on the settings and how to work them. Refer to the Owners manual for that. Steady hands and good eyes are the best thing. Practice makes perfect!!

There are some schools that teach the MIG, TIG, and Arc welding. I would look to public or state run high schools. In KY we have a Magnet Career Academy that sponsors about 3 or 4 highschools that teach welding, auto shop, and body work type stuff....

Good luck - CXJ

Get phonebook.
Look up local community college/tech school phone number.
Call CC/Tech.
Ask about welding class.

I know both of the tech schools near me have welding programs at night. I've been thinking of taking Welding I myself.

Ditto on what Corey said. I learned to stick weld years ago by welding scrap metal together. When I bought an ARC welder last year, I did the same thing. I know in Richmond at least one community college offers courses...Dale and I have been thinking about taking them.

But Im not gonna take the welding class, Im gonna take auto technology, I figured I'd use that more, so I have to find a welding class somewhere else.
