oh, and while i agreed with erik about the flexing....i only meant maybe a half inch or so...just enough so that when coming off of a good-sized rock you can hear it bump up against the tailgate rubber bumper. nothing like the warn does. also, have you looked at joe's? it's a 4wd hardware brand - and has a sweet over-center lock w/pin. his never seems to flex and the design keeps the tire closer to the tub than any other's i've seen!

I've been designing a second latch in my mind...have yet to put it on paper and won't play around with it too much until it gets warm out. I'd like to have it work with the first latch that Jeeperman uses.

eddie sent me a second generation latch to install...nary a rattle now! dead silent - the only flex i was talking about was slight for and aft sway when coming off of rocks and stuff.

p.s. watch out for our new XJ up here erik...i'm only around the corner for the next two days!

I decided to stick with the Warn bumper. I had it pulled off and re-attached by Troy from Jersey Jeeps and Customs in Turnersville NJ. I also added a "Snubber" from Durango 4x4, which attaches the 2x2 vertical tube on the tire holder to a bracket on the tailgate, keeping the carrier tight and snug against the body. I also am going to find a better way to secure the jeep on the trailer, instead of using the receiver hitch as a tie down point.

Axles or frame.

Oh, no, not the axles vs frame discussion! Finger

I prefer to secure the frame to the trailer. I bought a set of cluster hooks, and now put a T-hook through the hole in the frame directly behind the rear wheel. The front is still secured from the stock tow hooks on the bumper.

I build custom bumpers for TJ's out of 2x4x3/16 structural steel tubing. I use 1200lb trailer hubs for the hinge for the tire carrier, if your interested let me know, I can build you one.

This is one of my customer's Tj, 3 weeks after he got it he put his TJ up on the back side going up a small obstical, the full weight of the jeep was on the bumper, and there was no damage to the bumper nor the TJ.
