Hello,
I swapped out my rear axle and leaf springs yesterday, from the stock Dana 35 (I have an '89 XJ) to a newer Dana 35. With 3" lift, my old e-brake cables barely made the stretch; but the ones on this axle seem a bit shorter. I read somewhere that a YJ passenger side cable is longer and fits. Is this right?

Also, are there any disadvantages to the smaller drums on this assembly versus the larger ones on my old one?

Not sure about the YJ e-brake cables being longer. But there are companies that will make up custom length ones. Custom Cables is one that I know of: (562) 949-0455

The smaller drums are going to give you less stopping power than the larger ones...especially with larger tires. It should be fairly easy to swap over the larger drums. Or you could go with a disc brake conversion. This writeup is for an 8.25 axle, but you can use it as a reference for a D35 as well.

HTH
