I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee Limited w/Quadratrac all-time 4WD. Recently it developed a groaning/rubbing/scrubbing sound in front driveline. This is an intermittent problem and more frequently occurs when the vehicle is cold. Problem develops when making a sharp turn at speeds less than 10 mph. It usually occurs when backing out of my driveway, in parking lots/garages or when making any sharp turn at speeds less than 10 mph. The problem appears to decrease after the driveline warms up. It 'feels' like something (clutch pack?) is binding. The local Jeep dealer is no help. Any ideas will be appreciated... Thanks

does the groaning noise only happen when you are moving and when your turing. if it does i just had that problem last week. it turned out to be the wheel bearings and the outer u joint(s) the wheel bearings will give it the humming sound and the ujoints only have a major effect when your turning. when you turn the ujoints will pop and make all kinds of noise. its a common thing and due to your AWD J.G.C you will most likely have this problem every 5 to 8 years but for a normal selectrac under normal use you will have to replace it every 8 to 10 years on average. as of last week my u joints lasted me 17 years witch is outragous for a u joint the person be fore me never used it for off road and never used the 4wd except in snow. if you specific questions just ask my email is jeepzj9304@aol.com email helps so i dont have to look through the forums and it saves time.
