When I ordered my rims, the center caps came with them and I think I left them on there for about a week, and then they started to rust.

When I ordered the rims for both of our Jeeps, they did not come with center caps. I got the caps from some online vendor (I honestly forget where) for $5 apeice. Both Jeeps have had them on there for awhile and they have not rusted at all.
Personally, I think they add a nice bling

I was looking to find out what the stock backspacing is on a 2000 Cherokee Sport 4D w/4WD?

I'm guess here...but I believe the largest wheel available stock was a 15x7". Based on Jeep's recent history with wheel backspacing, you're looking at 5.25". If the wheel is 15x8", it's 5.5".

Good guess E. Right on the money...15"x7", 5x4.5 bolt pattern, 5.25" backspacing.
