I just installed M.O.R.E.'s shackle reversal system on my '83 CJ-7, along with a Rubicon Exteme Duty 2 1/2" suspension lift.
The Jeep now nose dives when I barely touch the brakes.
It also handles very sluggishly, like a boat!

Any ideas to help correct these problems? It's not safe to drive.

This is only my third post here and a great site.

For you, convert back to the standard shackle setup. Reverse shackles simply are a sham and simply do not function on our Jeeps as other longer heavier rigs.

After 26 Jeeps, I too have a 1983 CJ-7 as my main ride-DD and off road all over the world. I've stuck with this one for 14 years now. It was a total and I rebuild it. I just modified my suspension to get this articulation and still funtion on road like a car. Very happy with this arrangement.

You may go here to purview what I did with my suspension and it may help you some. Scroll down the Jeep pages index and choose which you may want to see for help.

Let me/us know as I know this sort of thing is vexing at best.

Thanks,

Robert

Thanks for your reply. I have since done quite a bit with the alignment and steering. Also, added a leaf to the 2.5" lift and went to adjustable shocks. All of this helped a great deal, but a huge improvement was seen
with installing 6 degree wedges between springs and front axle. I now notice very little nose drop, and it handles great.
Please let me know what you did to get that kind of articulation, and what experience you've had with CJ-7's and shackle reversal systems.

Of the 6 CJ-7s I've owned since '77, one I did the shackle reverse on. It did what you have discovered and finally on a hard flex, drove the wheel into the wheel back and crushed it.

That was it. No more.

For the mods to acheive that type of articualtion, this might help to start here:

And onto pages, 12, 13 for a more detailed step by step suspension modification workup.

Let me/us know how your mods work out and please post any questions or email me at:

Thanks.
