96 GC with 4.0L

My battery keeps going dead so I started checking for a drain etc. Here is what I found.
When I shut off the ign and shut the doors, the interior lights stays on for the 30 seconds or whatever and then go off just like they are supposed to, but then they only stay off for a minute or less, then bing, they come back on and don't seem to go off. When the lights go off initially the Amp draw drops from about 4.80A(with int lights on) to about .15A, it stays at that for a few seconds then drops to about .020A which is about right, but then after a little bit, back up to 4.80A because the lights are back on.
Any ideas would be much appreciated, Thanks.

I just noticed that they go on and off sometimes when you are driving also.

New one on me... Try calling the Jeep dealership and asking if this is common and what causes it..

i tend to have the same thing with my kc daylighters one of them shuts on and off but its severe like that one thing it could be is the amerage meter the other thing is it could have a leak. what i mean by leak is that the battery is still putting out electricity even when the jepp is off. i had the same problen with my work truck at eli lilly what we had to do is install a manual by pass switch that disengages the battery. if that be that problem then you have to open the hood and flip the switch manually and then start your car. the other thing is if that alternator isnt charging. if that be the case i would go with a mean green high output alternator.

Hey this kinda fits something i found on my 96GCL 4.0L. I was out under the hood doing some things and decided to put the ammeter on the battery and check the charging system out just for shitz and gigglez....

Well the charging system checked out just fine had 13.5 volts with engine running and the battery held 12 volts under a load test.....But with the key off and doors closed i was getting almost a 5 amp draw ???

I havnt had any problems yet by my intuition tells me im gonna....
Id really like to find out more.
