Hi all. I just this week fulfilled a longtime dream and bought a '94 YJ. It is bone stock with 220,00 miles on it and needs a lot of work. First and most major thing on the list is to fix the tranny. It is currently stuck in reverse. the shifter acts like it is in neutral, but the tranny is actualy in reverse and works quite well to move the Jeep backward. Rolling Eyes I have not had a chance to tear into it yet. So far I have been trying to do some research to see what I may be getting into. Any ideas? My hope is that it is just the shifter, but I don't know.

I would start by disassembling the shifter. If the handle acts like it's in neutral, but the tranny is stuck in reverse, my guess would be the shifter is fubar'd and I'd start there.

Thanks...that's what I was going to do...just thought it a good idea to try to get as much info as I could before delving into it.

Well it wasn't the shifter. Looks like I'm going to have to drop the tranny and break it open to decide if I'm going to rebuild it or just get a different one.
