I have a 97 wrangler and I have a loud knocking or popping coming from the mid to rear section of my jeep. it speeds up with acceleration so its something to do with the driveline or axles. Its loud... I was thinking it might be the U-bolts but i can't notice any damage to them. Any suggestions...

Thanks much....

Did you jack up the rear wheels off the ground before checking the ujoints? Sometimes its hard to tell if they are a problem untill you can spin the wheels freely and twist the driveshaft back and forth. There should not be any play at all in the ujoints.

Does it have a rear locker? Some of them can make a loud popping if thier wore out.

The other phantum noise can be from wore out shock bushings, but this is generally described as an intermitant rattle.
