I have a 1998 5.2L full time 4wheel drive with 170,000 miles. At about 55 and around 75, it gets a violent vibration that feels and sounds like I am running over rough pavement or rumple strips. I can let off the gas and then give it more gas and it will push through it. It has gotten progressivly worse. I cant fugure out what it is. Has anyone else had this problem or know what I should look at?

You say it quits if you keep going? I had that problem a while back, turns out one of my rear tires had worn almost completely bald, I knew I needed new ones, but that sealed the question.
Check your tires, they could be out of alignment or something too.. other than that, I'll let swampy or one of the other experts input.

May just be a slippage problem in the gearing. The full time 4WD throws out some wear and tear and with 170,000 miles its quite possible. Id have your drivetrain inspected. Any good dealership will give you a full inspection of that stuff relatively cheap or even free if there is a chance it may bring in some buisiness.

Are you lifted? It may be your rear arms are pulling the rear shaft into the TC. If your stock it may be your rear arm bushings need to be replaced. Can you "feel" where the vibes are coming from? Does it feel like the TC or the rear end? It may also be your inner bearings.
