My brothers XJ died the other day and the stealership said it was the fuel pump, and they want $600 P&L sorry i can;t give more info, but i'm 250 miles away. Does that sound right as far as the price? where is the fuel pump down in the tank> or somewhere else? thanks

What year is it? In 98+ they are on top of the tank and you'll need to drop the tank to get to it. So is the filter. $600 is a bit steep, but that is from the stealership.

The pump is in the tank. You have to drop the tank to get to the top of the tank where you access the pump. It's not a hard job, but if your brother is not mechanically inclined, then a dealer is the only choice. Factory fuel pumps are very expensive. An after market one is about a third the price. $600 for the dealer to put in a factory pump seems about right. If you can do it yourself count on a couple of hours and a hundred bucks. If you're going to try it yourself, let me know and I'll walk you through it. FD.
