Iv'e also got a oil pressure worry on my '98 Orvis A 2.5 Deisel. Loadsa oil pressure at tickover and cruising but when I step on the gas the pressure drops right down, it returns once up to speed. Particularly worrying on hills and where I live there are lotsa hills.
Is this yet another 'thats the way it is' or does anyone out there think there is some other trouble awaiting me.

Old Bob.

Sounds like you might be low on oil or your pup is either foaming or cavitating.. If it where mine I would change the oil pump.. They are not very expensive and not hard to do... (I dont know much about diesels but I am sure the component prices arent that much different...)

That is only my opinion you can always call the local dealership and see what they say..

Good luck on that one...

Thanks for the reply Carl, I spose I could ask the local stealership but I want to find out a bit more first. Obviously looked at levels, but the puzzle is that the pressure is rock hard at 60, idling or cruising, then foot down and down goes the pressure, get up to speed start cruising and back up rock solid again. Strange innit. At first I suspected the sender unit, and looked to see if there was a convenient oil pipe or gallery where I could fit a mechanical pressure gauge(English spelling for gage) to check and compare but couldn't easily identify anywhere. I will have to get a workshop manual, not easily aquired here in UK.

This is quite a good forum, good reading and good tips. I am a member of the Harley Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain (est 1949)and our website has some good tech tips but is mostly biker banter, check it out on www.hdrcgb.org.uk for a laugh or two. (same nom de plume -- Old Bob)

Regards

Bob
