I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Laredo package, 4.0L engine. It seems that the tranny has a problem, it slips at stoplights. It has been going on for quite a while now, at first we thought it was maybe a vacuum problem because there is a hose that is hissing when you open the hood. Fixed that problem but it has steadily gotten worse. Now it will slip while driving down the road. I pulled the dipstick and smelled the fluid, it doesn't smell burnt like slipping bands, and it seems like if it were bands, that it would have gone completely out by now. This has been a problem for probably 15,000 miles. Not really a major thing, just annoying when you have a 2-3 seconds pause while trying to take off. I searched these forums for answers but I found nothing that fit this description exactly. I read that there is a sensor inside the tranny pan that can control shifting, could this be the problem? Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. I am really hoping that I don't have to pull this tranny, I have had to pull too many already.

Thanks,

Jim

During a search of this forum i found this post:

Does this mean I can tighten the bands without pulling the tranny?
If I can it would be worth a try to keep from pulling it.

Thanks,

Jim
