I've got an '03 Sahara with Dana 30/44 axles with 3.73? gears.
I've recently lifted it and am running 35's. Should I regear and to what ratio? This is not a daily driver but is just a sightseer...
No plans right now to get muddy or dirty, but I would like to have full potential. Any help would be great...
Thanks for a great site!

4.88's would be the best
4.56's would be good

But that said. The 4.88's are a great gear for the 35" rubber, but the pinion shaft is thinner on them than on the 4.56, as far as the D30 is concerned. No problems with the D44. It would just be a matter of using a little more caution with the go pedal with the D30 in a high traction situation.

I'm running 4.56's. I lost a bit in the crawl ratio (which 4.88's would have made up for), but the rpm's don't rev too high keeping the mileage as acceptable as it's gonna get given the vehicle. Really depends on your preferences.

Wow - running 35's with 3.73? That's got to be harsh. I would definately step up to the 4.56 if not shorter. Highway rig or Mud rig regardless. If you don't want to get passed by a moped then drop those gears. Not to mention, you're gas mileage will suck bad. Just because they are tall gears with low RPM, you loose all that in trying to get the thing up to speed. I had 33's with 3.07 and it was horrible. I dropped to 4.10's and wish I had went with 4.56.

With that said, the lower the gears, you have to be extra careful with that Dana off road, especially with 35's. It won't be too bad if you stick to dirt trails with some ruts but if you get on the rocks and start hopping a little, be very careful. I would totally invest in a rear locker to help you with your climbing traction if you don't have one. You can take it nice and slow with a locker. If you don't, you're probably gonna have to spin em a little bit and that's going to get you into trouble.
