When I am looking at tires, how do i know which ones will fit my stock jeep rims?

Right now I have P225/75 R15 tires. Does this mean that ANY R15 tire will fit on mine?

simple version. yes

but it probably won't work the way you want. first you need to figure out how wide your wheel is. i'm going to assume that you have stock wheels so i believe they're either 7 or 8 inches wide.

to decide what tire you want you first need to figure out what you are planning on doing with your jeep. it would also be helpful to know what kind of jeep your driving. A stock TJ for example can handle some different sizes than a stock XJ. if you don't go offroading and just want something a little bit bigger or more aggressive, you could go with like a 235/75/15. that would fit very well in a stock XJ run great on the street and also give good flex offroad. if it's on a TJ then you could go with like a 30 or 31 inch tire if you have the right wheels to go with that. there is alot more to it than just: what tires will fit my rims.

give us some info on your jeep such as year make and model (make sure you also include all that information and more from now on when you ask questions. makes it easier for us to help you), and what you plan on doing with your jeep.

There's a limit to how wide a tire you should mount on any given size rim. Your rims are probably 7 inches wide. According to my information you can use up to 31x10.50R15 tires on a 7-inch rim. I believe if I was going THAT big I'd get wider wheels. You can use up to a 9-inch rim on the 31x10.50R15 tires, according to my chart.

I put 255/70R15 tires on my stock Cherokee Sport rims with no problems.

I have a 97 TJ with everything stock. I would like to get 33 inch tires, but I know I will need some kind of lift to fit them, so I am deciding between 33s and 31s.

If I did get a lift, would it be possible to put 33's on my stock wheels? I know most 33s are 12.5 and I guess you said 10.5 was the biggest I could go?

Also, how do I figure out the dimensions of my rims? They are the stock ones that say jeep. All they say on them is 1.75 AL-MC 50.
