i am looking at replacing a minivan with a cherokee (in my pending divorce i got the minivan and she got the cool car Rolling Eyes ) Evil or Very Mad

anyways...
i have been thinking about trading for a '95 ~ '00 cherokee. they look like fun and my occasional canoeing/camping trips will look more orvis/LL bean in a jeep. and... i hear the chicks dig 'em Wink

i would use it as an everyday driver and i dont think i'd ever modify or lift-kit or ever put anything but all-season radials on it. i just want to get rid of "her old car".

so whaddya say? what the most dependable engine/drivetrain combo you know of?

thanks a bunch

As far as the best drivetrain...4.0L with an AW4 auto tranny. Of course if you can find a 5 speed manual, snag it. Wink

My wife and I just got a beautiful 2000 Cherkoee Limited.

We are very very happy with it.

It has all the factory options including sunroof and the neato overhead console from the grand cherokee.

I highly recommend the Limited trim package if you can find one. The leather interior is nice too for people that are real outdoorsy, with dogs and mud etc.. like us.

We also opted for a 4-door with all the stuff we like to carry around. Tried very hard to find a manual tranny but they are few and far between.

I believe that the 2000 cherokee limiited that we got (with 60k miles) was an amazing steal at a mere 13,000.... I believe you would be hard pressed to get more of a vehicle than that for the price which makes XJs a great bargain IMHO... happy hunting.. we used vehix, cars.com and autotrader to locate the perfect XJ for us.
