Howdy folks,

This is my first post on any Jeep forum though I have been driving Jeeps since my early twenties. I have always loved them, though. My first Jeep was a 1995 Wrangler 4 banger with a Five speed. Over the years I switched suspensions a couple of times until I learned the best suspension for me was one that used an amalgam of quality parts from different folks. One of my best friends is also a Jeep nut, so we spent lots of time keeping our Wranglers up to snuff and we learned a heck of lot by doing most of the work ourselves. We've yanked trannies, rebuilt axels, bled, bled and rebled hydraulic clutch cylinders....etc., etc.

Well. I was feeling rather bored during my plant shutdown ( model change/tooling change and maintanence ) this July and after a couple days of thought, I ended up trading my lovable Green '95 for a new Six banger Six speed Rubicon Unlimited. Did I mentnion it has AC???? I didn't know that you could put AC in a JEEP???? Is that even legal??? Well.....I like it....AC in AZ is "AC on with both windows down", for me anyhow.

Thus is the crux of my first post:

When I drove my little YJ around I almost never failed to get waves and smiles from fellow Jeep owners....which is an immensly diverse group of folks....but now???? With my new Rubicon??? No one will even LOOK at me....NO ONE! Now mind you, I live in Arizona and it is nearly a requirment in this state to own a Jeep vehicle. I swear to you that there are more Jeep brand vehicles on the road than anything....well, anything worth talking about. Yet, I have somehow become a pariah!!! I don't get it...what the heck do you guys suppose the deal is????? Is it just becuase they hate me 'cuz my Jeep is beautiful??? I can't help it!!!! That's Mopar's fault, not MINE!!!!

I think there's a bunch of folks jumpin on the Jeep bandwagon who have NO BUSINESS owning a Jeep. I mean....it has ALWAYS been proper etiquette for Jeep ( I mean specifically MB/CJ/YJ/TJ Jeeps ) folks to give a friendly nod...EVEN IN THE BIG CITY....but no one seems to know the UNWRITTEN Jeep code anymore!!! I can't tell you how many times I have stopped to help Jeepers in trouble....how many kids in Jeeps I have given gas money to, or girls I have helped push their Jeeps to a safe place in the case of breakdowns, etc, etc..

WHERE ARE ALL OF THE REAL JEEP FOLKS!!!!! WHERE HAVE THEY GONE????

Thanks for listening!!!

Well, first off welcome to JH, desertmoon! Very Happy

And yes...I think that is part of the problem. You have a brand new Rubi' that is probably not even had a front bumper mod yet. I see them all the time out here, and I'll wave, but they are totally blind to it. It's almost as if they are too good for other TJs, but I know that's not the case. They are just stupid. rofl

Nevertheless, one of my wife's friends just bought a new TJ. She was complaining to my wife about all the other Jeep owners that wave at her, just like when she had her Harley. Complaining? shock IMO, she doesn't deserve to own a Jeep! Evil or Very Mad But this is America, and as you start doing some mods to your Rubi, you'll see more waves IMO.

Again...welcome to JH
Wink

Thanks for the welcome. I was thinking a lot of the same thoughts....I keep wondering if I lift it.....will they wave???? I guess I'll find out.....WHEN I PAY THIS THING OFF!!!! Whew!!! Not cheap...and I got a LOT off...I make Jeep airbags so I get a supplier discount. STILL!!!

IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

just like the last one!!!!

I got my first wave today !!! Smile

had it for 2 months now and got my first wave by some guy in a realy nice CY, he had it all chromed up and lifted.

I live in Puerto Rico, the north and east side of the island is mostly city and urban areas, the south and west is more country. The few jeeps I see up here in the north are mostly TJ's and all of them with Hardtops or softtops on, and in the south its mostly pre-TJ's and all of them with bikini tops

I was thinking maybe its because with the hard top you dont see the person and its not as personal so you dont get waved at. Or maybe its because my jeep is still stock and I might look like a yupee who bought a jeep because it looks tough but dont really have the heart of a jeeper?

I cant wait to afford some mods for it though Smile

Anyhow, my girlfriend was laughing when I got waved at because I was surprised, then I honked back at the guy since my windows where up , ( I swear if could have I would have bought him a beer in thanks)

She found it funny because she gets waved at when she rides my jeep with the top off by other jeeps. And fords, and Nissans, and susukis, and hyundais and guys on bikes.

Damn it, she doesnt get it!

I wave to all modded jeeps! Most wave back, it's the newer TJ crowd that doesn't respond to anything

i wave at anyone in a jeep, especially yj's (square headlights rule) living in jeep country (colorado) u cant wave at everyone in a jeep but sometimes its good. its jus one of those things that none of my friends or anyone else gets. the lift and 33x12.5" tires definitly get a few more friendly people on the road than stock, but heading back from the lake w/ 3 girls in bikini's Mr. Green definitly helps out a bit more. in any case, its all those rubicons with nothing but being stock that dont have any scratches, dents, mud or any other trail marks, that never wave... if i see an actually used rubicon i wave, but if it jus looks pretty i'll jus wave back.

Yea...that's not how I see it...with that new paint job Finger, and also that lifted YJ that waved to you down at your uncles.

I've also noticed I don't get waves from the mall crawlers or the older crowd in the newer TJs.

I sure miss my YJ......... Sad ...I never had a problem being acknowledged. I, too, have noticed this "older" crowd that doesn't wave....to me they are worse than the young ones!!! Where I live most of the old folks come from areas where you wave in GENERAL....but when they invade Arizona in the winter they cop serious attitudes.

It really bums me out that all of these folks are jumping on the Jeep bandwagon because Jeeps are all the rage...they have no respect for the legacy or the history of the Jeep. They're just along for the ride. I have noticed nearly all of these folks sell their Jeeps within a short amount of time.

aint it weird how jeepers have divided themselves up

we all drive jeeps but we only wave to those in the same model as ours

its a jeep, they are all jeeps, all should wave
