I have a 98 XJ limited, and Mrs. Hognuts has a 00 XJ limited. We get a little oil there on both of em usually after an oil change. the guys at the valvoline store spill it out of the filter when they change it and it runs back there. I hope that is all it is for you too.

Most likely the rear main seal leaking. The 4.0 is notorious for it. From what I understand, hope you have plenty of time and patience if you are doing the work yourself. Haven't had to do one, but I heard they are a PITA.
