I am the original owner of a 1978 Jeep C-7. I understand that there is supposed to be a Vehicle Identification Number tag on top of or close to the windshield wiper motor. My Jeep does not have one. There is a V.I.N. plate on the firewall and the V.I.N. is stamped on the frame.

Any other '78 CJ owners out there that have the tag on the wiper? I am replacing the rusted tub and want it all to be legal.

Thanks.

I should have ask about 1976-1978 Jeep CJ's. I have had feedback from 1979 and newer CJ owners to know it is '78 ond older that may not have the dash plate.

Is this a dumb or boring question? Or maybe there are no 1976 - 1978 CJ owners on this forum? Or maybe this is not an active forum? I don't know but I am surprised by the lack of interest.

Or maybe nobody knows. I searched around when you originally asked but didn't really see anything. If you've got the other 2 VIN's (frame and firewall) you're likely okay but I would check with your DMV to see what they require. If you can transfer the plate to the new firewall and it didn't originally come with one anywhere else, I can't see that they'd require one in an alternate location since you'd essentially need to fabricate one. But check with them to keep it legal in their eyes. Wink
