I have a 1998 Grand Cherokee SE Limited 4Litre straight 6. (forgive me if i'm posting in the wrong forum)

When accelerating the engine will sometimes rev to 4000 rpm because the gears wont change up! I have checked the transmission fluid and levels are fine and it smells like it's still ok.

Any Ideas?

thanks in advance

I would start with something simple like TPS (throttle position sensor.) It tells the computer when to shift.. And its only $24..

Give it a shot and let us know..

If the check engine lights on take it to Auto Zone and have the codes checked. They do it for free. Mine was doing the same thing, had the codes checked, it was the vss mounted on the transmission. changed it out and fixed the problem.
