I was looling at the 8in 250W sub that 4wheelparts has that fits in the XJ cargo area, but no mention of amp. Will it be crap without an amp or if it needs one what size? I don;t really have any audio knowledge. thanks

if you wanna feel it hit id at least get a ten inch sub and yes you will need an amp

if you just want to make it sound a little better find a pioneer ten inch sub (most of them are rated like 350 watts) and a 400 watt amp or so just remember dont crank it too much or you mite blow the sub

if you really wanna have it hit jump up to two 12 inch subs i have that in my back and i still have room for ammo cans a pretty big tool box and my light bar

all right, I'm only looking to make it sound better, so the 250W 8in with like a 300w amp would do that? Becasue I'm not looking to hit really hard just sound better would it be a better investment in just new speakers?

You want an amp that is within the power range of the sub. Having an amp that pushes more power is a surefire way to blow it. Check the RMS rating of the sub you want to then find an amp that is similar in RMS output. Take note of the bridged output as that's what you'll be doing if you run a single sub off of the amp.
