I was just curious about how many WWII history nuts we have on this board?

I'd like some feedback from anyone who would like to chip in also. My Jeep is in need of a paintjob. (surface rust, thousands of scratches, claw prints from the cats...the usual) I had an idea to paint my jeep the olive drab color that the military uses with the same kind of finish. I would also paint the white star on the hood, and make up a fake serial number of my favorite armed forces division for the bumper. Along the side where the "Rubicon" sticker is, I was thinking about getting "ROKN IT." To tie it all together, I'm thinking about the Poison Spyder Tube Fenders.

I Want to make it look as close to a 1942 Willy's Jeep as possible.

Thanks for any info, and I'm really looking forward to paying tribute in my own way to the vets of WWII!

Just remember to run with you window down so the glass won't glint in the sun and give your location away to any german planes that might be in the area Wink

I too have debated over painting my jeep in an olive drab color.

I now wish I would have gotten a wrangler so I could make it all army like. I would probably have to paint it low vis. grey and have USN painted on it just to be diffenet. I'm a navy brat too though so I'm a little biased thumbs

What my plan is, seeing I am not able to buy a military vehicle, to modify my YJ to a military Looking rig. How the wrangler would look if it were in army service now. Just installed these tires today @ $ 78.00 each and will be painting OD next week. OD paint came from the Command Post @ $18.99 Gal.

Coker Tire

Command Post

Maybe we should start "OD Wrangler Corps"

the assult weapons ban is up so you could always find yourself and old browning .50 or .30 to hang off of it. Even if its just a replica it would still be awesome. Twisted Evil

After I posted this, I Saw quite a few Olive Drab jeeps in magazines and what not, then I had an idea I might paint it tan for Desert Storm Mr. Green

I was thinking instead of the skinny tires there for the $78, I would get a set of TSL Boggers or Grip Spurs.

I like the picture the one guy posted but it had olive wheels...i think they would look awsome with the white steels maybe even the black steels

and stevo that dude is tryin to sell some swampers for 400 bucks with rims...now they aint no bogger but they better than the grip spurs

From what I have seen the rims on military vehicles follow the body paint. Olive drab vehicles usually have same color or black rims. I've got a friend that is drving humvees in iraq and from the looks of it they paint them straight tan with tan hubs. I don't think the military really does the same desert camo that they did in the first desert storm on vehicles.

But hey, what do I know, I'm just a civilian.

And major, looks good! How well do they go on the trail and are there any inconveniences with using a tubbed tire?
