The part-time 4WD in my 2002 Wrangler X gets stuck in the "on" position even after I shift back to 2H. I know it is stuck on because of the noises and the obviously locked differentials when I turn the wheel.

After shifting into "park" switching off the engine, waiting a few moments and then restarting, the 2H works again. But sometimes it doesn't work and I end up driving with the 4H for a few miles until it decides to behave. I know this is bad for the Jeep and I don't like the noises it makes. Also I feel like there is a lack of acceleration, but that might be my imagination.

Anyone know the cause of this problem and how to fix it?
Background: I bought the Jeep in May and didn't use the 4WD much until it the snow/ice hit New England in the last month. (for which it is awesome!) I believe the previous owner used 4WD quite a bit on paved surfaces.

Confused
