Ok I'm going to install a head unit, and speakers in my 87 XJ. I lucked out and there was a harness behind the old radio so I don't have to hardwire everything. I found out that the 87 is a break year. Some had harnesses some didn't. I have a Sony Xplod 52W X 4 for a head unit. I bought some Roadmaster 100W per pair speakers for front and rear. I just want some nice sound that's why I did splurge.

Anyway some of the clips are missing from the hatch. The previous owner used screws to hold it. I was thinking of using them plus to prevent water getting to the speakers to seal around the trim panel with some silicone sealer. Is that ok?

I'm going to put the speakers in the stock locations and behind the trim panels. I haul alot of stuff and don't want anyone to hit the speakers. So am I heading in the right direction? I couldn't find any parts stores with harnesses so I went to Radio Shack and they ordered one. It will be in tomorrow. I have to take a trip in the morning for dog food then when I get back I will work on the truck. I have 3 days off.

Hey JCG,

NP, you can seal the panel with the silicone. It may make it difficult to remove in the future so I'd rec while you're at it lube the locking mechanism.

Thx, Phil

Yep I already have the spray. Plus I usually spray it from the key hole. I'm waiting on the wiring harness to come in. I'm going to work on the speakers until it comes in.

I lived on a dirt road all my life and learned to keep locks lubed.
