i think it would be a great unit - i've have zero complaints as far as how well my past garmin units have operated. but - i'd say no way for permanent wrangler mounting since they are so easy to break into. i'd have to pull the unit every time i park (like i do with my current portable gps). once that is factored in then you have to face the fact that you'd be paying at least 25% - 40% more in asking price just for the fancy mount.

Another Garmin fan here, I have the c330 StreetPilot.
I wouldn't put anything permenantly mounted in a soft topped Wrangler either, which is why I like the streetpilot, the windshield mount is rock solid and it comes on and off the cradle very easily (I leave the mount in place when parking in an 'unknown' area). _________________ 2002 TJ Wrangler X

Here is the link for the Garmin TrailGuide GPS system. It is similar in function to the Garmin Quest 2 GPS, as it comes pre-loaded with US, Canada, and Puerto Rico maps, plus the ability to store more maps, waypoints, and other trail info. I've been looking at the possibility of getting one of these to replace my GPS V I own now (I just LOVE loading through a serial cable... ).
And don't let the TrailGuide info fool you, yes it works on ANY Jeep or vehicle, not just for Wranglers. Installation is pathetically simple and the Garmin website regularly updates the software free until brand new versions come out (in other words, upgrading from 5.5 to 5.6 is free, but to go from 5 to 6 costs extra). A well recommended system. _________________

I've been looking to upgrade from a Garmin E-Trex vista (handheld with windshield mount) just because the display screen is small and is difficult to see when driving.
A neighbor has a Magellan handheld that was the same price as my Garmin but doesn't have all the features that mine does, but his does have a larger screen.
Do you Garmin users have the "Map Source" softwear. I know it's pricey but it's cool to down load all your wapoints and tracks on to your computer. _________________ 2002 Wrangler Apex
