I am reaching out hoping to cash in all the favors I have ever done for people (which have been a lot) with the hope I can get some diagnostic help.

I have a 78 CJ-7 with a 304. Everything is pretty much stock and I admit I am not much of a "wrench" but learning. My jeep idles fine but when I accelerate for approximately 1/4 to 1/2 of a mile it bogs down and sounds as if it has run out of fuel. I have had a retired mechanic friend of mine help me correct several things that we thought were the problems, but nothing has helped. We have relplaced the fuel pump and have acceptable pressure and volume. All fuel lines have been replaced as well as fuel filters. There is a new fuel tank, but the problem existed before the replacement. there does not appear to be any vacuum problem form the new tank and the gas cap. The carb has been re-built and the timing adjusted. The EGR valve has been relplaced as well. It idles fine but runs sluggish until it eventually dies. The distributor has been checked and appears fine. I believe, all types of engine pressures/vacuum have been checked and appear fine.

I wholeheartedly appreciate any input.

Try reading through these- not sure if you've already checked them, but it couldn't hurt.

Thanks Code3TJ for the info.

My old, derranged mechanic friend temporarily installed an electronic fuel pump so there was a steady and consistent supply of fuel going to the carb and it still died. Any other suggestions? Thanks again for your time.

I had this exact problem with my '78 CJ-7 with a 304. I finally mounted a small lawn mower gas tank on the hood with a direct (gravity feed) to the carb. It ran fine like that. The problem was rubber flaking off the inside of the old rubber fuel line close to the tank.

I removed all the old rubber lines and blew out the steel fuel line with compressed air and installed new rubber lines. I had tried everything you tried before. You would not believe the crap that came out of the steel line! Did you blow out the fuel line after you replaced the rubber lines? If it works let me know.
