I have a 94 Laredo 4X4. It is idling approx 700-800 rpms. When you put it in drive or reverse the jeep goes by itself. Is this normal or is something wrong. Also the line from the transfer case to the trans cooler keeps blowing off at the quick-connect at the cooler. Believe this is the return line. We had no problems until we changed the water pump which required him to remove the line. We drove about 25 miles no problem. Let jeep sit for a few days, went about 6 miles and line broke loose, transmission stopped pulling. Towed it home, reconnected line, added fluid, trans seemed fine. Drove it around a few miles, everything seemed perfect. Let it set for about 3 days, now decided to change filter. Some sludge, not too great considering never been changed, (has 115.000 miles). Changed fluid , started vehicle in garage, went thru the gears one by one slowly, put back in park, rev'd engine and line blew again at the cooler. Someone suggested a stopped vent line. We checked the vent, its not clogged. What should we check next? The line has the quick connect, could this be faulty. If so why wouldn't it blow it off every time?

Update: Now someone says the Catalytic Converter is stopped up? Would this cause my problem?

I'm not very knowledgable on all of the symptoms of a bad Cat, but I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with a high idle. I believe in some cases it could bog the engine down, but not speed it up.

Also, maybe I'm not reading your post right, but automatic transmissions usually put the engine load on the rear tires (or front if you have front wheel drive) as soon as you move it out of park or neutral.

I'm not flaming you, and I'm pretty sure I'm reading the post wrong, so please correct me if I am.

HTH,
Stevo

my jeep goes on its own in drive and reverse...as for the line blowing off simple fix would be make it a hard connection not a quick disconnect

spray some carb cleaner in the transmission lines...cleans out the gunk in the tranny...and you could use a shot of compressed air to try and free up anything in the way...just dont blow the crap into the tranny
