I really appologize if this question was answered and I'm spamming!!! I just really need an answer to this! I actually found the car that I really started to love...cuz I been considering for a long time debating truck/suv..and other makes, with engines and stuff. I found this is my perfect choice, i6 4x4, and great body which looks soo mean offroad!!! The only question I got is what years are best for them? Cuz I been lookin for something cheap, below 5K, since my heart wouldnt allow me to take something more expensive offroad, what can I say. I wanted to know which years are going to be great and and about transmisions, should I go with manual or automatic? I was lookin around autotrader and I barelly found any within 300 miles, only like 5 with manual tranny. Bah, my questions are, are automatic trannys are good on jeeps? and are the engines reliable to hold for while? Since I probably going to get the one with 100K on it, are the engines strong and realible if it was treated good all its life? And what are the great years for those cars? I appreciate your answers!! And sorry again if this was answered! I just desparetly trying to get into a 4x4 community, but with so many choices I just couldnt really make a decision. I'm finally ready to give up my civic Smile for something bigger and tougher Smile

Hello, my preference is the 97 and newer XJ's. They're a bit more refined. I have had both auto and standard transmissions and have never had to touch either of them including the clutch. My niece has my old Grand and it has 170k without the engine or tranny being touched asside from oil changes. In the summer I bought a 99 for just over 5k with 90k miles on it so you should be able to find one under 5k if you look. The engines are rock solid and have been known to go 300k. I think standard or auto is picked more by preference than anything else. Good luck!
