I am installing a 1988 4.0 liter Jeep engine in 1993 Jeep Wrangler. I need to know about the pilot bearing. The bearing in the old engine seems to have a soft bushing around it to compensate for the difference in the bearing diameter and the hole in the end of the crankshaft. No one locally at Jeep dealers or Jeep repair shops seems to know anything about this area. Anyone got any ideas?

I figured I should replace my pilot bearing when I did my clutch. I got three different pilot bearings from three sources and each was different! The stock one was longer and had a seal, the one from LUK clutches had more bearings and a seperate seal (but didn't fit), the one from napa had no seal. I just reused the old one (it looked pretty good anyway). My advice... Measure them with a micrometer (length and width) and watch for that seal (it faces the tranny).
