Hey guys,
I'm new to the site & hopefully I'm placing my question in the correct forum section. If not please forgive me.

With that said, I probably have a simple question. As I was driving to work this morning my speedometer stopped working (the car never stopped working - made it to work with no problem). I pulled over and & switched the ignition key on & off 3 times to get the diagnostic codes, and this it what they were: Code 12 & 15.
I know code 12 means the battery was disconnected recently, but code 15 has something to do with the speedometer (I think).

Does anyone know for sure what the code stands for & where is the location of the sensor, so I can try to replace it?

Hello, up at the top of the Cherokee forum list there are sticky's. In the one for XJ tech writeups there is a list for the codes. Yours lists: 15 No speed/distance sensor signal. Sounds like your sensor is bad or you have a loose connection.

thanks for the info.
Now does anyone have any idea, where the Vehicle Speed Sensor is located.
I've been searching on the internet, but i'm having no luck with finding the location of the sensor

On newer Cherokees the sensor is on the drivers side of the housing that is attached to the rear end of the transmission. I'm not sure about the year of yours but it's a good place to start.

Hey guys,
I found the speed sensor & replaced the part. Unfortunately, I had to do some alterations with the wiring connection, since the aftermarket isn't the same as the original. I even went to the dealership to confirm if the adapter I was being sold at my local auto shop was the only kind. Turns out the dealership had the identical one to the auto shop, so looks like I was forced to make the switch & cut the wires to install the newer piece of the plug.
Anyways, the sensor eventually was installed, but still no responce on the speedometer gauge. Nothing moving on the dash board. What gives? Do you I need to look for something else?

You need a circuit diagram of the vehicle so you can figure out where to go. Maybe a repair manual will tell how to troubleshoot it. Could be no voltage getting to the sensor, it's not turning properly (assuming it's not a hall effect setup) or the signal isn't getting back to the computer. It's possible the computer is the issue. I gotta be honest, the alterations make me wonder why the plug was different. You should not have to alter it.

I'll assume you already checked it but the same thing happened in my friends 92 xj, turned out to be a fuse.

FUSE!!!!!!

Where's the fuse that would cause the gauge not to work.

I know theirs a set of fuses under the foot panel of the drivers side, but all of them are working.

Is their more else where??????
