I am in the middle of my 2.8 to 3.1 motor swap and have run in to a bit of a problem. My flex plate has 4 bolt holes and the flex plate on the 91 3.1 motor has only 3. All of the 2.8 and 3.1 motors I have checked all have been 3 bolts to the converter. I need to retain the 4 bolt to match my converter. But I need a flex plat from 88 and newer 2.8 or 3.1 due to chevy making them internally balanced after 88.
Thanks,
~Rich

OK. The 2.8 was only used from 84-86 and the 3.1 was never used in Cherokees. So you might not have much luck getting an answer here since these are Chevy/GM engines.... Confused

Have you tried some of the online speed shops like http://www.jegs.com or http://www.summitracing.com ?

Well I have found out that the only solution is to have my existing 2.8L flex plate 0 balanced at a loacl machine shop. Should be around $80-$100.
I will find out in the morning. But seems to be the only hang up. other than that I will have to use an electric fuel pump now. But that is easy. A pretty easy swap.

Well I just found a local Nappa shop to do it for me for $37. Note to anyone doing this swap....get the flexplate from the 3.1 also. It will help the shop out.
So I am taking it in today and should take a day or 2.
