I've got a 1999 Cherokee with 100,000 miles and a 4.0 engine.
It takes several second of cranking for the engine to start, but once it starts it runs fine.

The previous owner said his mechanic thought it was the injectors. Would bad injectors cause this? What other components should I check?

Thanks in advance for your help!

try this.........turn the key to the ON position and wait 5-10 seconds. then try to start it. if it starts right away, then you know you have a problem with your fuel system not holding pressure.

after that you're on your own. i got lazy when i realized that, and now i just wait 5 seconds with the key on before starting it.

I have asked the same thing! (years ago)
my jeep along with all my friends jeeps that have the 4.0 seem to crank for several seconds before firing up
I was basically told that it was normal

Maybe on the older models (pre 90), but not on a 99 with 100k.
