Hi All i would just like to introduce myself first my name is martin and i live in manchester england and i own a 2003 Grand Cherokee Overland WJ the problem with the Car is what sounds like heavy road noise that cuts in and out like a washing machine from the front end loudest when you listen near the shift lever it has been back to the dealers where they diagnosed the front pinion gear to cut along story short everything in the front differential was changed but to no avail then the wheel bearings were changed both sides still the same then the bearings on the prop shafts were changed still the same Jeep dealer admits there is a noise but don't know what the problem is the jeeps warranty ran out last week and the car is left with the problem jeep said in the end it is probably just a quirk with this vehicle that will never be found i was just wondering if any of you guys out there have had any problem like this that you got sorted hope to hear from you soon Martin.
PS should i take the dealers word or take it somewhere else for fault finding ?

I know how you feel. I've had the same problem with my jeep. Went into dealership, 2 weeks later same noise but louder. I haven't done it yet but I think we need to find someone that knows what their doing no matter where you take it. I think its matter of correct adjustments once the differential has been worked on. If its not shimmed right, the ring and pinion are offset in which will cause the whinning. My differential bearings and one hub bearing were changed out and I hear the noise in the center of vehicle also. Keep us posted on the progress....
