So I just picked up a '99 Cherokee Classic. Noticed a light under the hood. Anyone know how this turns on. Does it just come on when the hood is opened? Or, do the headlights need to be on or something. I don't see a switch anywhere for it.

It's supposed to come on when you lift the hood but ifit's like my 98 XJ, it's probably burnt out.

And it's going to cost you $18.00 if you ever want to see it ON !

Many people unplug them so as not to run down battery when working on vehicle for long periods.

I'm thinking of just installing a toggle switch on it and installing another on my power antenna for when trail riding.

My 98 has a metal slide that connects the switch inside the light housing when the hood is raised. If that's the type you have then you should be able to break it open and make sure it is sliding free, or change the light bulb if it's burned out. That's cheaper than buying a whole new light.
