I am also a new jeep owner and found this info very usefull. I have a 2001 and don't seem to have the snaps to hold up the back window. Do you need to pull the rubber gasket out in order to roll it up? Also does the back window fully come out, or does it stop at where the zippers meet?

Nice write-up....although I can't get mine to sit that low, I can get it to sit down more than the 3rd brake light.

As I pull the top down, I neatly fold all of the excess top between the frame, back towards the seat.

I've also noticed the four strips of plastic (two on each side) that secure to the door surround will pinch the roll-bar holding the top up.

All I do is lift the section of the top with the windshield mounts high enough to fold the plastic strips in to the middle of the top.

That should help it sit lower. If you have any questions, I can get a picture of what I'm talking about, just ask!

HTH,
Stevo

I did get a couple things from the wright up that I wasn't doing, Like that the rear and mid bars can sit in to the tub, and tucking the top as you go.
My top does sit a little lower, but still doesn't sit as low or look as clean as the one pictured.
So I still must be doing somthing wrong.

Nice. I usually just let mine fall where it may, as I live in a city and have to put the top back up every night, anyway...

One thing is on rolling up the rear window.

I think I'm really dense.

I have the two straps that came with the Jeep, but they are a "closed" loop - that is, when you snap them in, they're like little handles... You can't open them to wrap around the rolled up window...

So what do you do? Unzip the top of the window past the snaps, slide the loop over the window, and then snap the loop up?

I don't feel so bad now. I also thought that the strap was a closed loop, but after looking at these pictures, the strap actually goes around the window and snaps on the outside of the top. There is a lip that hides the outside of the zipper and if you look above the zipper, under the lip, you'll see what you need to snap to.

I had to feel under the lip to actually find it. Hope this helps!

The 06 Jeeps may not have the same loops as the older Jeeps.

Thanks for the write-up and guidance, I see now I have been rolling my back window up the wrong way.

Your welcome guys. I tried to make it easy and understandable.

Just like the Duster and Bikini tops I did. Its a Jeep and the top needs to be down. Wink

I want to thank Apex for the post and kiser for his answer. I have had my 2005 TJ-X for just under 2 weeks. I have been following the message boards here for the last 4 days or so (my laptop was down, just got it back up). I also didn't get the video when I got the Jeep. so this post was just what I needed... Oh and one thing, if you get a small hole in the top (maybe from a branch or something) how would you fix that? I am worried about where I park it at work, that someone may pop a hole in it for fun.... is there a way to repair it?

A couple weeks ago I removed the top and put the bikini top on and diggin' it every time I drive. The only problem is...pollen, pollen is everywhere inside my Jeep.
My wife followed me the other day and she said I had a yellow cloud comming from the Jeep as I got up to speed.

A while ago I performed some zipper maintaince on the rear window and snapped one of the slidders in two, now I can't roll up the rear window when I put the top down.
Does anyone have any info on if and or where one could buy a new slider?
Thanks

Kizer, Great write ups.

My problem is that I folded the plastic door surrounds on the top after you folded them, so that they would be on top of the soft top and not in the second to last fold as yours...
Thanks again

I used to work at a fast food establishment and I am sure you can imagine the people who would get near my jeep... especially people I did not get along with at work...

some one even put a condom on my shifter Evil or Very Mad ... needless to say he did not ever mess with me or the jeep again rofl (at least it was not used, the condom that is)

I still need to, but I would get an alarm system for the jeep...
