Love this site!

I have a 98 Wrangler. Lately it has started to 'chugg' after i start it but only after it rains heavily. The problem goes away after about 10-15min of driving. I changed the plugs in it about 6 months ago to Bosch, i have heard they don't work right sometimes. Could that be it? i also thought they fuel filter may be getting a little moisture?

any suggestions?

thanks

I always thought that this was one of those Jeep Things. My 02 did it and my 03 does it. Today is a good example. Cold, damp and humid and it chugs untill warm. Im guessing that its most likely a senser issue. Not that its a problem, I just suspect that the moisture is playing with the senser untill its warmed up. Another could be, if you lift the hood and see condensation on any of the engine parts when the weather is damp, well it can get condensation on the inside also. Again that goes away as the engine warms.

So in my mind, as long as it dosent throw a code, it shouldnt be a problem.

In a 98 it could be bad plug wires and/or distributor cap.
98 still has the distributor doesnt it?

I dont think this would be the case for anything over a 2000 though.

the check engine light comes on real quick then goes off wjhen it chugs hard. i put some gas line antifreeze with water remover in today. will see if that changes anything. i am going to look at the fuel filter real close also.

Your Distributor cap likely has a crack which will allow moisture in.
Replace you cap for about $7 at the local auto parts store.

I would replace the plug wires and plugs while your at it.

The whole job will cost you less than $50

my 97 did the same thing, then it got worse, but since the check engine light came on, I changed my upstream O2 sensor and now it doesn't chugg as often only b/c I need to replace the downstream, can't see spending 100.00 on a downstream

Throw out the bosch and replace with champs. If you think the fuel filter is bad then replace it.
