I have a 2001 XJ Limited and this morning I woke to a dead battery from leaving the back hatch unlatched. I jumped it and everything was fine. Down the road later I stopped and the jeep died! It continued to die when ever I came to a stop. I called the dealer and they said the computer needs to relearn the values and it should take 5-8 miles of driving. After about 40 miles it still does it sometimes, but now it idles at about 300 RPM. I have read through this forum and found out that it may take about 50 warm ups before the computer relearns the values. Just wondering if there might be something else to check or to do.
any help or suggestions would be appreciated, the delaer wants $150 just to look at it!

Is that the stock battery? I had to swap mine out a year after I bought it (it's a '00 model, bought it in '02). For some reason the factory bats just didn't cut it for long life.

I dunno, my stock battery lasted me almost 5 years.

Disconnect the battery for 30 or so minutes. When you drain it stone cold dead, the ECU needs to be reset.

That did the trick. I am glad I hesitated on taking it to the dealer.
