I have read and looked a lot of write ups for replacing hub assemblies. This is on a 97 XJ, so dana 30, non vac. It hasnt really come up in the write ups and now a friedn has me confused. After I pull off the spindle/hub assemly, will the axle shaft just slide out? Write ups just say pull it out, but he thinks i need to crack the diff to take off c clips first. If so none of the write ups I found mentioned that. This may be common sense to some, but I'm not there yet.

I was JUST into my 92 XJ Front Axle to install Lock Right Locker.

I had to pull axles to remove differential carrier because Ring Gear was too thick to remove Pinion Shaft.

There are NO C Clips on my Dana 30.

I removed Bearing caps to remove Differential but don't think they have to be removed to remove axles.

Hope this helps!

you DO NOT have to open the diff. there are not c-clips.

once you have removed the brakes and the hub, you just pull the axle straight out.

be carefull when putting the axle back in. use a vacuum to suck the dirt out of the axle tube first, or if you don't have one, then try to insert the axle in without letting the splined end slide on the bottom of the tube. otherwise you will push alot of dirt into the diff.
