Ya, make sure that the Jeep is running good for the 25thAnnRun. That should be a real good time.

CJ-5 Hill is pretty neat! I experienced it on the ORJJ2006 Pre-Run.

Looks pretty knarly but I got up it with little problem but discovered leaking Axles seals after that (I actually had seen a slight leak even before Paragon but figured I needed to go ahead and get it fixed right!

There are mostly mild trails at Oakridge but a couple of good crossings and a few rocks. Should be good times!

That is indeed Kenny Smith (I think that was his last name?)

He was breaking in a rookie Trail Guide along with the rest of us!

Several people talked about damage that was done on that trail in times past and I was a bit nervous about it but didn't break anything (much).

Just developed some slight leaks!

It was the toughest thing I saw at any trail at Oakridge!

Yea. At last years VA4WDA Annual Run, that was the first obstacle we hit on day one. Kenny was on point so he took it first. He proceeded to break his rear driveshaft and I think he busted a front hub too. First day, first trail, first obstacle and the trail guide breaks his junk.

Needless to say...a lot of people were nervous after that. rofl

Ok, for those of you that are going to this clean-up project, we will be meeting at 9:15 am tomarrow at Mountain View Elementary School (2800 Rawley Pike, Harrisonburg, Va. 22801), about 1/2 mile past the usual staging area of the old Food Lion on Rt 33. We'll have a quick driver's meeting and head out.

Thanks to all the folks that showed up from Capital Land Cruiser Club,
FM2CD, NOVA Jeepers, and OCC for the cleanup effort. From OCC we had
the following attend:

- Barbara Turville (TJ)
- Burton & Julie Simonds and Kyle (pickup)
- Don Winkelman (TJ)
- Ed Salas (TJ)
- Lauren Levi (TJ)
- Wayne Lau (Excursion)

Out meeting location was at the Mountain View Elementary School right
off Rt. 33. We had three (3) groups for the cleanup efforts. Jeff Cole
(NOVA) was leading a group to cleanup Dunkle Hollow. Burton Simonds
(OCC) was leading a group to clean the pull-off areas along Rt. 33 and
the campsites at the beginning of Kephart. I (OCC) was leading a group
to clean Fireroad 72 and the ATV parking lot.

We picked up a bunch of trash at the beginning of Fireroad 72. There
was a small amount of trash at the ATV parking lot and some at a
campsite at the beginning of the Dictum trail. As we started to head
back down the mountain, Julie called me on the CB. I was impressed she
could reach me from Rt. 33 near Dunkle Hollow especially with one of
those cheap Walmart magnetic mount antennas. Their pickup was full and
needed to make a landfill run. We decided to head back to the school to
meet up.

Burton/Kyle, Neil (CLCC), and I headed to the landfill while the rest
headed to Kephart. After the landfill, we were headed towards the
campsites at west entrance of Dry River with the gravel road. Before we
got there, we stopped at the first pull-off area as Jeff's group was
there. We decided to transfer their trash to Burton's truck so they
could bug out a little early the NOVA guys had an engagement to get to.
From there we headed to Dry River and ran into the other guys. They had
cleaned up Kephart and had just finished cleaning the campsites at the
west end of Dry River. We made another run to the landfill and were
done for the day.

In the end, we collected 2,000 lbs of trash. Not as much trash as I
thought there would be after the Memorial Day weekend, which is not a
bad thing. Guess folks were packing out what they packed in, which is a
good thing. Thanks again for all the folks that showed up.

Later...

- Wayne
