I have a 97 Cherokee. There is a klunk from the front end, sounds like drivers side, when turning sharply. Seems to be more noticable when reversing. There are no vibrations when driving at high speeds. I replaced the sway bar bushing because they were worn, but the noise is still there. Any ideas? It is usually a single klunk.

Dunno how the TJ's are set up suspension wise but maybe a clunk is a clink lol. After hearing this on my wife's XJ I had the shocks and ball joints upper and lower replaced. Clunk was less noticeable as were other noises but when backing up it is still there. I had the mech that did the joints look into it and he said the upper control arm front bushings were the culprit. Sounds logical and are an inexpensive piece, labor intensive so I'm told but the more I drive it and turn and back up the more I believe this to be my problem. I will have the new arms (went all out ha) and bushings today so hopefully this will solve the clunking issue. Hope this helps, good luck!

Hey if it's on a side then maybe it is the front u-joints? Is it 4wd? These are known to go out and make a noise as they bind up when tight turning. Just a thought.

Check the track bar axle side mount. It's notorius for clunking on turns. The bolt may not be torqued to spec and/or the bushing may be bad.
