I'm coming off a high from just replacing the exhaust manifold on my '98 Wrangler, but this has brought me back to reality. haha

My sons '79 CJ has a steering column with a turn and wiper swith on the column, not intermitent, just off hi lo and a spring returned Mist tab. I've been told it's not the original. Not much on the Jeep is. Anyway, the wipers don't work. The steering column switch is a POS, you have to hold it down to turn on the left signal and it's all sloppy. But I lowered the windshield and took the wiper motor off and the back plate off and with a circuit tester it reads that it's getting power through the black wire. Even to the contact arms underneath that back plate. So

How do I make sure it's the motor that's the problem before I get a new one?

I'm guessing that one of the three wires is for the 'mister'? Or is it for the high/lo function?

What's involved in swapping out that column switch?

Also, the windshield frame is bent where the wiper arm comes through . Can I put a big washer on the back of it for more support?
