I just got a 96 grand cherokee unlimited, with the v8 and 4x4. I love it so far, minus a few problems I'm having that I hope you guys can help me with.

First off, my gas gauge doesn't work. It just always reads empty, and the low fuel light is always on. Anyone know what the problem might be, or how to fix it?

Next thing, I tried to install a stereo in it, and I'm trying to figure out if there are factory amps for all the speakers, and if so, whether or not they will affect sound out of an aftermarket stereo, and the easiest way to bipass them. Also...if anyone has a diagram or knows anything about the radio wiring, fill me in.

Last thing, because of the v8 and constant 4x4...it gets horrible gas mileage. I was wondering what some of you people did to help increase power and gas mileage.

Thanks guys!!!

fuel sending unit would be my gas why the guage doesnt work

as for the mileage, a good tune up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter would help

is yours the 5.9 if so i wouldnt expect any mileage higher than 12 in stock form

you could swap the tcase to get 2wd that may give you a mile or two, plus its a better case than the 249

I believe mine is the 5.2, and when I was driving it home, it said my average mpg was about 14.5 or so. Wouldn't be so bad if gas was still $1 per gallon. Thanks for the help so far.

Your mileage IS about right, 2 wheel drive will gain you about 2-3 MPG in my experience. If you have the Infinity factory stereo, there will be an amp under your rear seat (driver side I think), these are tricky to connect aftermarket head unit to. Check with Crutchfield.com to check it out, they've got ALL the info you need. Good Luck!
