Hey all,

Over Easter I took my 98 Cherokee out for a little fun. During hard articulation circumstances in 4 lo, I kept hearing a lot of grinding and binding. Some of it I can attribute to rubbing, my rear leafs are starting to sag and I'm down to only an inch and a half lift, not the 2" I started out with. Anyway, can anyone tell me what may be causing the sounds? I have a 2 inch lift with extended shocks, the front sway bar has been modified for the lift removed the rear bar, and put in a t-case lowering kit.

Thanks,
Matt

It is hard to diagnose remotely and based on just a sentence or two and I am not attempting to sound like any kind of a expert at all but I had some weird goings on similiar to what you described further complicated by jumping out of 4WD Low. (92 XJ)

I eventually got rid of the jumping out of 4 Low and weird noise by adjusting the 4WD linkage (underneath near Xfercase).

Mine started before but seemed agrevated by installation of my 4.5 inch lift. I also discovered the HARD way that I HAD TO have an SYE as well. After lift install, as I backed out of friend's garage, it sounded like Fred Flintsone-mobile with square tires! Roll, THUNK, roll, THUNK . . . . as driveshaft bound-up then released and bound up again over and over. TOTALLY undrivable!

I doubt that your is SYE related with only 2 " (or 1 1/2") of lift but who knows?
