I recently found a 5' long bike dial for 10-speeds that I'm thinking of converting to a hand throttle. I already have 5' of stainless tubing to run the wire through, and I've searched pretty vigorously on Google for instructions on how to do everything. I'm pretty confident I can make this work, but I'm curious if anyone else has fabbed up theirs as well? The only thing I'm not 100% sure on is how to mount it around my cruise control and pedal cables, plus whether or not a rotating thumb switch is gonna work like I need it to. I've already figured out I'll need to lock off the cable at the thumb switch end somehow to keep resistance (when I try and reset the thumb piece back to norm the cable stays pulled out at that end). I figure I'll mount the dial onto my center console so it will be handy for just reaching in the cab and adjusting it when I'm winching, plus rather than being on a steering column or gearshift, it will be completely stationary.

Any thoughts/opinions?

That's exactly what I have...bicycle cable and a thumb switch. Took about 30 minutes to install. The hardest part is routing the cable through the firewall. IMO, it's actually better on the gearshift...the way mine is set up, I don't even have to move my hand off the shifter to work the throttle. Plus, it's much easier to get to than if it was down on the console someplace.

As far as the getting the other end to the TB, I don't have cruise control so I just used that cable slot under the hood to hook it up to, which also made it easy to keep it from binding up/interfering with other cables...the last thing you want is it to stick when you want to stop.

As far as the resistance/return, once it's hooked up, the springs on the throttle body will pull the cable back to it's "resting" postion...just like it does with the gas pedal and cruise control now.

Oh yea...moving this to Drivetrain since it's not Electronic related. Wink

Cool. One of the webpages I d/loaded has details on how to hook it up around the cruise control cable, so I'll probably follow along those lines. I've already spotted the grommet where I need to drill out to the engine cab, and where my headlamp switch wiring is also gonna run through.

Danke schoen. Wink
