Hello all!! I just purchased my first Jeep and have been enjoying the vehicle so far. I just have one problem. The back plastic window zipper seems to bind up and separate. When I try to zip the window up, the zipper gets very difficult to move. When I force the zipper to move, it creates a space where the zipper is not closed. In other words, the zipper is sealed, then open, then sealed again. Wow, this sounds very confusing!!

Is there any way to fix this without stitching a new zipper into the window??

I too have the same problem, In the corner where the zipper makes it’s turn from vertical to horizontal.
When I first baught it is was easy to move, but now I need pliers to get it around the corner, then the rest is easy. I thought that since my jeep is 4 years old, I chalked it up to old age.
I have tried Marvel mystery oil to help the zipper glide, but it didn’t help.
But yours is an 05' so that blows that theory out the window.

It sounds like the zipper head is broken. Sometimes you can fix the problem by using a pair of pliers to close the sides of the zipper head. You don't need to be too hard on it, but this may solve the problem. Otherwise you will have to replace the head. A graphite pencil along the zipper can also provide some greasing to make it easier to pull.

The best thing I've found for the zippers is Armorall.
The silcone makes the zippers slide better than new.

My top is an original 1999 and the zippers still work perfectly.

Ok...pintching the back of the zipper does make the teeth mesh correctly, but DO NOT OVER DO IT. One of mine snapped and now I only have one to work with.
So now when I go to put the top down, I have to remove the rear window completly.
If anyone know if you can buy just the zipper thing-a-mabob let me know, it's a bummer having to take the window out all the time.
Thanks

Great advice PA Snowdog! I used a terry towel with a couple shots of Armorall on it to apply and my zippers are all working perfectly again. Even on colder mornings when the windows are tight the zips glide smoothly.

You can also use soap on the zippers as well.
