I split your post off the old thread - maybe somebody will be able to help you figure out the a/c problem if you can't find the FSM. What year is it and do you know what's wrong with it?

1999 jeep grand cherokee limited.

condenser, lines, and what appears to be an accumulator/drier don't show any signs of leakage. In fact everything looks tip top. Pressure seems low but can't find a leak like i said. i added just a little 134a and pressure came up to an almost acceptable level (with only a couple ounces...weird).

the line leading to the evaporator was chilled but no cold air is coming out. does this thing have an expansion valve (none visible in the engine compartment)?

as far as pressure goes it would reach about 45 ( i think, i'm trying to recall from memory) and then when the clutch cycled it would drop (somewhat slowly, not all at once) to about 5 where the clutch would shut off and pressure would return to about 45.

thoughts? suggestions?

Is it blowing out of the vents at all..

It is a common problem with Jeeps that the blend door gets stuck and AC will blow out of Defrost vents..

Or is the blower motor not working???

blower motor is fine, and its blowing out through the panel vents. i got ahold of a cherokee FSM and as best i can tell the same system is used (fixed orifice tube vs having an expansion valve). So I have some more info to go on. I'll update this thread with my findings in case anyone is interested. also if anyone has any more input feel free.
thanks

Add 134a untill the suction line back to compressor is cold and sweaty but not all the way there, only inch or so from compressor. Or if you have an electronic scale, blow the charge, pull a vacuum with a vacuum pump and weigh the charge in with the weight that is on the information tag on top brace over radiator. Suction pressure should be about 57 psi optimum, with clutch engaged, either way you do it. This will give you an evaporator temp just above 35F and cold air.........................................Tony Cool
Oh yeah roll down alll windows and A/C on full blast when charging.Open doors if you can stand chime.
